Heritage
The Valluvanad princely state consisted of 18.5 regions. One of these regions was ruled by the Chemmala Nair family.
To strengthen the homeland, the local ruler brought in from Vadakara those who were highly skilled in Kalaripayattu, Ayurveda, and Mantrikam (esoteric practices). This is where the spirit of Athma Kalari first began.
The art of Kalaripayattu, passed down through generations, reached Gurukkal Vipin from his grandfather. Once taught only to the people of the region, this art was made accessible to all in 2005 with the founding of Athma Kalari.
Even today, both locals and foreigners come here to experience Kalaripayattu firsthand. As time has turned, the tradition continues to flourish through Vipin Gurukkal, the eighth generation torchbearer of this martial legacy.
